 Swim Lesson Registration Process

 STEP 1   -  Determine your child's swim level with our lesson leveling guide:

                    Trained Aquatics staff will be able to adjust your child's level if needed on the first day of lessons. 

 

STEP 2  -   Select the time and location you would like for your child:

    Due to the specific needs of participants, Level 2 and Parent/Tot lessons are available at both pools, 
    Starfish and Level 1 are only offered at PV Pool, Levels 3-6 are only offered at Shapiro Pool. 

 

STEP 3  -   Register for your lesson online or at the CARD Office

The following changes have been made to our lessons to ensure you and your child's swim lesson experience will be the best possible. 

  • Swim lesson level offerings at each pool have been reformatted for improved quality.
  • Shapiro Pool Lessons will be twice a week for four week sessions, except Parent/Tot lessons.
  • PV Pool Lessons will be four days a week for two week sessions. 
  • Private lessons are available at both pools in a one-on-one package and a two-on-one package.

Parent/Tot (6-36 months w/Parent) PV OR SHAPIRO POOL
This course is designed for parents interested in introducing their young children to the water in a fun and safe environment.  Parents are directly responsible for their child's instruction while under guidance and supervision of a certified instructor. 12 Children maximum.   • Enter water/water adjustment
  • Blowing bubbles
  • Underwater exploration
  • Front/back positions
  • Front/back positions with arms
  • Safety skills                           

Starfish/Tiny Tots (2½ -4 years old) PV POOL

This class is for children with little or no exposure to the water.  With the instruction and supervision of a certified instructor, children explore and adjust to the water through instructional play. Class size is limited to 4 participants. Click Here for Starfish/Tiny Tot Lessons

Skills Taught- Mastery Required for Advancement

  • Walk 5 yards in chest deep water
  • Going underwater with minimal assistance
  • Comfortable working with other children
  • Jump to the instructor from deck
  • Front float with support
  • Comfortable in the water
  • Enter pool unassisted   

Turtle/Level 1 (4-5 years old)   PV POOL

Level 1 is designed for children with little or no water experience. Instructors teach introductory floating and movement skills through active play. Emphasis of class is on water enjoyment and basic instruction. Class size is limited to 4 participants. Click Here for Turtle/Level 1 Lessons


Skills Taught in Turtle- Mastery Required for Advancement

  • Attention span comfortable in class
  • Submerge body underwater
  • Swim using arms and legs
  • Blow Bubbles for 5 seconds
  • Front and Back glide

 Guppy/Level 2 (5-8 years old) PV POOL

Children will need to be comfortable in the water prior to taking this level; previous swimming instruction is recommended or Level 1 certification. The course is taught in a structured class environment where children begin to learn to swim and float independently. Class size is limited to 5 participants. Click Here for Guppy/Level 2 Lessons.


Skills Taught in Guppy- Mastery Required for Advancement

  • Front and back crawl 5 yards
  • Front and back float with kick
  • Retrieve object underwater
  • Turning over
  • Front and back glide
  • Bobbing 10 times
 

Stingray/Level 3 (6-14 years old) SHAPIRO POOL

Children who are comfortable in the water will learn and continue to refine the crawl stroke and practice breath control. Participants will be introduced to elementary backstroke and deep water diving skills.  Class size is limited to 5 participants.  Click Here for Stingray/Level 3 Lessons.


Skills Taught in Stingray- Mastery Required for Advancement

  • Front and back crawl 25 yards
  • Elementary backstroke 15 yards
  • Front crawl with side breathing
  • Jump into deep water
  • Treading water
  • Kneeling and compact dives

 Swordfish/Level 4 (7-14 years old) SHAPIRO POOL

Children will increase their stamina by swimming 3-4 laps as they continue to develop and refine the front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke, and practice breath control. They will be introduced to the breaststroke, sidestroke, treading water and diving. Class size is limited to 6 participants. Click Here for Swordfish/Level 4 Lessons.


Skills Taught in Swordfish- Mastery Required for Advancement

  • Front and Back crawl 50 yards
  • Elementary backstroke 25 yards
  • Breaststroke 10 yards
  • Sidestroke 10 yards

 Dolphin/Level 5 (7-14 years old) SHAPIRO POOL

Participants continue to coordinate and refine their skills concentrating on form and efficiency. The butterfly kick is introduced. Class size is limited to 6 participants. Click Here for Dolphin/Level 5 Lessons.


Skills Taught in Dolphin- Mastery Required for Advancement

  • Front and Back crawl 100 yards
  • Elementary backstroke 50 yards
  • Breaststroke 25 yards
  • Butterfly kick 10 yards
  • Sidestroke 25 yards

 Shark/Level  6 (7-14 years old) SHAPIRO POOL

Participants will continue to refine the front crawl, back crawl, sidestroke and breaststroke. Instructor will emphasize butterfly, introduce turns and basic rescue skills, and work on increasing participant's stamina. Skills Taught in Shark

  • Front and back crawl 150 yards
  • Breaststroke and sidestroke 50 yards
  • Butterfly 10 yards
  • Flip turns
  • Treading water for 3 minutes

 Private Swim Lessons
