Jr. Giants Baseball Summer League

*FREE* Summer Jr. Giants Program (5-13 years old) Players must be 5 years old by 7/1/17
Jr. Giants is a FREE, non-competitive summer baseball program for boys and girls, sponsored by the San Francisco Giants Community Fund and the Chico Area Recreation and Park District.  Junior Giants is a great opportunity for boys and girls. For the 2017 season, divisions will be by ages: 5/6, 7/8, 9/10 and 11-13.  Players will learn the skills of baseball in a positive and fun format. Junior Giants is more than just a baseball program; it has character development, health, education, and violence prevention programs within it as well!
 

This program requires volunteer parent participation.  Volunteer positions available include Head Coaches, Assistant Coaches and Team Parents. The time commitment is about 1 ½ hours for one weekly practice and another 1 ½ hours for games on Saturday. Practice locations and times are held at the discretion of the coach. Junior Giants required new participants and parents (returning participants/players are not required to attend) to attend one of the below "First Pitch Meetings" to go over the logistics of the program.
 
Choose one of the below meetings for all new participants/players.

  • Wednesday, May 31 from 5:15-6:15PM
  • Thursday, June 1 from 5:15-6:15PM
  • Saturday, June 3 from 10-11AM
  • Saturday, June 3 from 11:15AM-12:15PM

  • Practices start the week of 6/12/17 or earlier.

When you click "game schedule" you will be taken to the external website, TeamSideline. We are using TeamSideline for game and tournament schedules for all youth/adult leagues. Please contact your coach to find out what team number/color you are on the game schedules. Please make sure to scroll all the way down to see the tournament and practice schedule for your league.
  
This is limited seating at all game location. Please bring a chair if you have one available. There is no tolerance for unsportsmanlike behavior from players, parents or spectators. Persons or players participating in the activities sponsored by CARD are not covered in anyway for personal liability, property damage, medical injuries, etc.
 
Word of the Week
Week # 1:

Introduction to Jr. Giants
  • Bring your handbook to practice to review with your team to receive a Giants ruler.
  • Receive your first baseball card at practice- the Starter card.
  • Start reading for the Round the Bases Reading Program. Turn in your reading card to the Information Table at your game when you achieve a "base." 
  • Jerseys and hats will be distribute to players & volunteers at the practices and games this week (it is dependent upon when Giants ship the equipment).
Week # 2:

Health
  • Receive your second baseball card at practice- the Health card.
  • Turn in the completed Healthy Habits poster to Information table at the game to receive a Giants water bottle.
Week # 3:

Confidence
  • Receive your third baseball card at practice- the Confidence card.
  • Receive a Confidence band at practice or your game.
Week # 4:

Education
  • Receive your fourth baseball card at practice- the Education card. 
  • Bring a book to practice to encourage your teammates to achieve the Home Run Reading Level.
Week # 5:

Teamwork
  • Receive your fifth baseball card at practice- the Teamwork card. 
  • Receive a Teamwork band at your practice or game.
  • If your ENTIRE TEAM reached the Home Run Reading Level - they will receive a Giants backpack.
Week # 6:

Leadership
  • Receive your sixth baseball card at practice- the Leadership card.
  • Receive a Leadership band at your practice or game.
Week # 7:

Strike Out Bullying
  • Receive your seventh baseball card at practice- the Strike Out Bullying card.
  • Turn in your Strike Out Bullying Contest entry to the Information Table at your game and receive a Giants drawstring bag.
  • Recite the Strike Out Bullying pledge at the Information Table at your game and receive a Giants sweatband.
Week #8:

Integrity
  • Receive your eighth baseball and ninth baseball card at practice- the Integrity and Season Review card. 
  • Receive an Integrity band at your practice or game.
  • Show the Information Table that you earned all 9 of your Jr. Giants baseball cards at practice, and receive a bobblehead.
  • Last chance to turn in your Strike Out Bullying Contest entry, and any Round the Bases Reading cards for individual prizes (this excludes the Giants backpack for the team Homerun Reading level).
 
 
 

ShortE Tee-Ball

ShortE Tee-Ball (Fall & Spring Options)

ShortE Tee-Ball includes fun and game play! This instructional program is open to all youth 3-6 years old.  Coaches will work with players the first two weeks to introduce the sport of baseball using basic skill techniques and formations- including catching, throwing and batting from a tee.  The last three weeks there will be 30 minute practices and a 20-30 minute non-competitive “game” each session. Fundamentals and simple game strategy will be taught throughout the entire program.  Show up the first day and be ready to play! You will not be contacted by a coach for this program. Program will be held at DeGarmo Park.  General youth sports jersey is optional, but highly recommended. (can be purchased at the CARD Office for $15).

Little Batters

Little Batters Tee-Ball (Fall & Spring Options)

Hey batter, batter. This instructional league will get your child excited to run the bases! Stations and games will be broken up by grade and age. Show up the first day and be ready to play! You will not be contacted by a coach for this program. Program will be held at DeGarmo Park.  General youth sports jersey is optional, but highly recommended. (can be purchased at the CARD Office for $15).
