Homeschool Classes

Thrive Homeschool Program
Classes are led by adults from our community who have expertise they are excited to share and teach. All classes are hands-on, project-based, and meet a minimum of three state standards. All of our class leaders have a clear background/fingerprint clearance and have been hand-selected and trained to provide your student a quality, caring class experience. Classes range from academic math classes and science labs at the Chico Creek Nature Center to enrichment based activities such as cooking, sewing, and Minecraft clubs. Homeschool Handwork
In this class, children learn basic handwork skills including sewing, knitting, and felting. We'll use colorful natural wool felt, yarn and roving to create simple and beautiful projects according to each child's skill level. Creativity and confidence is encouraged naturally in a fun and relaxed environment. Children taking the course repeatedly can build on their skills to create expressive art pieces as well as practical pieces that can be worn and cherished. A $20 supply fee to be paid to the instructor on the first day. Instructor: Deva Daniel. Dorothy F. Johnson Center. No Class 3/14.

Homeschool Garden to Table Through the Seasons
We’ll spend time both in the adjacent garden and the kitchen through the seasons as fresh, seasonal, locally grown foods and food made from scratch. Because this class is intended to be a continuous series for homeschoolers through the school year, we will get to start with the basics and go deeper, with activities like fermenting, canning, food crafts, baking, wild foods, herbs, experimenting and more. Some children may be taking a handwork class before this and may bring a snack to enjoy while we introduce the topic of the day. This class is based on wholesome vegetable and fruit food and most diets can be accommodated.  *It is not required to take the entire series. A $25 supply fee to be paid to the instructor on the first day. Instructor: Sherri Scott. Dorothy F. Johnson Center.  No class 3/14.
