Joy of Computers!

This course is an introduction to the computer. We will start from the bare bones basics, from learning the physical pieces of the computer, how to navigate, create documents and folders, manage your electronic filing system, customize the computer, and learn the basics of word processing (typing). Everything will be explained in the simplest, least technical way and with analogy. No prior computer knowledge required. This class is taught on PC's and Windows and is not suitable for Apple users. Microsoft Office Word 2010 - NEW

Level 2 Class: This course includes basic and advanced functions of Microsoft Word 2010. The skills students will learn include: Standard word processing, text manipulation, formatting pictures, page layout, creating and formatting tables. In addition, students will learn how to insert text boxes, WordArt, lists, hyperlinks, shapes, foreign symbols, headers, footers and more. These skills can be used for personal, as well as professional endeavors. No prior experience with Word is required, however, basic computer literacy is strongly encouraged or subject matter may be difficult to understand and follow. Microsoft Office 2010 Suite- New

Level 2 Class: This course includes basic and advanced functions of Microsoft Word, Excel and manipulation, formatting pictures, page layout, creating and formatting tables. In addition, students will learn how to insert text boxes, WordArt, lists, hyperlinks, shapes, foreign symbols, headers, footers, and more. The skills students will learn in Excel include: Creating effective ledgers, graphs, formulas for automatic calculations, modifying columns, rows, and cells. In addition, students will learn how to sort data, filter data, how to use What-If analysis, and more.

The skills students will learn in PowerPoint include: inserting images, videos, audio, tables, and charts. In addition, students will learn how to apply themes and transitions, how to animate text and objects, how to create slideshows, and more. No prior experience with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required, however, basic computer literacy is strongly encouraged or subject matter may be difficult to understand and follow. Get to know your iPad

Become more comfortable with your iPad.  As a class, we will discuss and demonstrate the best apps from the following categories: productivity, reference, navigation, news, finance, education, music and games.  We will cover how to best sync your data to "the cloud" so that it is always available from any computer.  We will also discuss and demonstrate the best way to keep all of your data secure in the cloud and on your iPad. Have a new laptop? This course will teach you: The features and accessories available on your notebook, how to properly power up and shutdown, set up password protection, how to use your touch pad, expand battery life, customize the font size and pointer size for an easier use, customize the desktop, adjust the volume and display, protect your notebook from viruses, keep your private information safe when purchasing goods online, connect to the internet through Wi-Fi, remove unwanted software (bundle promotions that come with your notebook), maintain your notebook running fast and smooth, how to get automatic updates and the proper way to clean your notebook. Facebook-NEW

This course is an introduction to the social networking service Facebook. We will start by setting up your Facebook profile which includes: creating an account, understanding your account, setting up your privacy, creating your profile, and how to deactivate your account. Students will then learn how to use the Facebook tools which include: how to find friends, how to upload pictures and videos, and "What's on your mind?". In this course, students will also learn about the resources Facebook has to offer, such as: joining and creating a group, planning and inviting people to an event, the posting of notes, and the sending of gifts. No prior experience with Facebook is required. However, it is highly recommended of students, whom do not have a strong understanding of computers and basic computer literacy, to take the "Joy of Computers" class prior to enrolling in this course.
