Beginning Archery - NEW

Come and experience the exciting sport of archery. Archery combines physical and mental conditioning and develops muscles, concentration and mind control when using a bow and arrow. It is safe and fun! You will learn basic posture of shooting, equipment management, and strengthen your body and mind. Please wear a t-shirt, sweat pants and tennis shoes. Archery equipment is provided for classes. There is a $20 supply fee payable to the instructor at the first class meeting. Instructor: Chang Ho Yi. Hooker Oak Recreation Area.

Introduction to Hardshell River Kayaking - NEW

If you have an affinity to water and adventure, this is the class for you! There are scenic places on earth that you can only see from a river. This class will give you the necessary skills to paddle safely on moving water. Join Jeremy Jostad, a certified American Canoe Association (ACA) Whitewater Kayak Instructor, for a weekend of learning basic skills of river kayaking.  The first day will be spent at One Mile Pool in lower Bidwell Park learning kayak strokes and kayak roll. The second day will be on the Feather River learning river safety, hydrology and how to enter and exit eddies safely. Don't miss this opportunity to experience the beautiful Feather River and learn a skill that you can use for a lifetime! Please note: All kayak gear will be provided. We will be using hardshell whitewater kayaks, not sit-on top river kayaks. People considering this course should be in good physical condition. Upon completion of this course, you will receive an ACA River Kayaking Certificate of Completion. There is a $50 supply fee payable to the instructor at the first class meeting which includes the use of a kayak, paddle, helmet, pfd, skirt, and insurance for the course. Instructor: Jeremy Jostad.

Sacramento River
Eco Tours - NEW

Just a few miles from Chico, the Sacramento River meanders through the valley. The Sacramento River supports a variety of wildlife and surprising natural beauty. Come explore it by Kayak!  Join Dan Efseaff, a restoration ecologist and American Canoe Association Sea Kayak and whitewater instructor, to paddle, explore, and learn about the rich natural history of this ecological hotspot.  This 1 day class includes touring kayaks and gear and a brief introduction to paddling.  We'll stop frequently to learn about river processes, look for signs of wildlife, and explore some of the restoration efforts in the area.  Previous paddling experience suggested but not required. There is a $15 supply fee payable to the instructor at each class. Class meeting location will be available prior to the tour date. Instructor: Dan Efseaff. Location: Class will meet at the CARD office and then caravan to the river location.
