Superstars! CARD's Inaugural Inclusive Prom: A Night of Inclusivity and Fun

April 18, 2024

A disco ball hangs with a bokeh light background, giving off a festive, glowing ambiance.

The Chico Area Recreation & Park District (CARD) is proud to announce its inaugural Inclusive Prom, "Superstars! An Inclusive Prom," on April 27th at the CARD Community Center. This event is specifically designed for teens and young adults with physical and intellectual differences, along with their friends and families, promising a night of inclusivity and joy.

"Teens with disabilities often miss out on high school dances due to a lack of accessibility, support, sensory stimulation, or social comfortability with their peers," said Ben Kaiser, CARD's Inclusion Coordinator. This event aims to change that narrative by providing a memorable prom night experience for teens and young adults with disabilities. Attendees are encouraged to bring a date, friend, or family member to share in the fun!"

Superstars! Inclusive Prom is for high school-aged teens (13–18 years) with disabilities or young adults (aged 18–22) in high school continuation or alternative diploma programs. Our goal is to create an inclusive, accessible, and sensory-friendly prom night within an environment where everyone can succeed.

"CARD is one of the largest organizations in the North State for recreation, and we are here to help everyone thrive," said Recreation Director Anjie Goulding. "As our Inclusion Program grows, we believe it is our duty to lead the charge in creating one of Butte County's first-ever Inclusive Proms, and our team is so excited about it!"

The event will take place on Saturday, April 27th, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the CARD Community Center located at 545 Vallombrosa Ave. Don’t miss out on registering for this free event! Registration is required and can be found at www.chicorec.gov/inclusion. For more information, please contact the CARD Inclusion Team at 530-895-4711 or email inclusion@chicorec.gov.
